Level

Description of Service

1

During the School Year

This level includes help with homework and review of classroom curriculum based on materials that you supply (i.e. textbooks, classroom notes, workbooks, & assignments).  On days when your child may not have homework, the textbook is used to check current understanding, refresh past lessons, or introduce upcoming lessons.

During the Summer

For students taking summer school, this level includes help with homework.  Students should bring their textbook/workbook, notes, and assignments to each tutoring session.  These materials are also used to check current understanding, refresh past lessons, or introduce upcoming lessons.

For students not enrolled in summer school, this level includes help with reviewing concepts taught over the course of the previous school year by using a workbook that is provided by the parent.  United Arts & Education, other local education stores, and web sites have such workbooks available at a reasonable cost (around $20).

During the School Year & Summer

In addition to Level 1, the next level of tutoring includes the use of state academic standards, which are used to assess and improve current understanding as well as discover any learning gaps your child may have.  This helps our tutors provide material specific to the needs of your child in order to achieve mastery of each skill as needed.  At your request, we will check your child's online grade report prior to each session to enable us to stay up-to-date on classroom performance.

Each session is based on materials you supply; as well as other supplemental materials that will help your child achieve his/her academic goals.

During the School Year & Summer

In addition to Level 2, this level of tutoring includes individualized activities and assessments, which are used to improve and monitor progress.  Games related to math and language arts may be used to help make learning fun for students.  At your request, we will contact your child's Math or Language Arts teacher via email to get an idea of your child's classroom behavior, abilities, and work progress.  Also at your request, take-home assignments may be given.  Approximate reading and comprehension levels can be assessed as well.

This level also applies for standardized test preparation.  A minimum of six sessions is recommended for this type of learning.  Practice standardized tests are utilized during most sessions and assignments will be given after each session.  Study strategies and test-taking strategies are reviewed.  For personalized SAT/ACT learning, an additional $5.00/one-hour session is allocated.  This includes a thorough review of past PSAT/SAT/ACT results.

Career improvement and undergraduate areas are included at this level as well.

*If preferred, we offer in-home tutoring.  A $5.00/session charge will be added for this convenience.

As qualified tutors, we are familiar with using higher-order learning.  This helps students reach their fullest potential, and in turn, feel more confident in their academic abilities.

Tutoring is available all year round.  Each one-on-one learning session generally lasts one hour, but longer sessions are available by request.
